Welcome to Room 269!
Hello, I'm Amy Sellers. I have been teaching in Minneapolis since 1998 and I'm excited to be at Bryn Mawr this year. This year, the Math teacher, Tom McComas and I are departmentalizing in fourth grade. Since I am a Reading Specialist, I am teaching Reading for both fourth grade classes.
I teach using the Reading and Writing Workshop models and use the Responsive Classroom philosophy. In the workshop model, students get to read and write a lot. We use Words Their Way for word study and will be sorting word patterns and playing games, as well as, keeping a word notebook. We use the hands on FOSS Science kits and will be learning about the United States with an emphasis on Geography this year. We are planning field trips and other real life activities this year.
My Masters in Reading degree is from Concordia University and my undergraduate degree is from Illinois State University in Normal. I have experience as a gifted and talented teacher, a classroom teacher, a reading facilitator, and with students who need extra help.
Our main way of family/school communication is the daily planner.
